Exciting New Volunteer Opportunity @ Watershed!!
Are you between 16-25 years old?
Are you interested in building up your skills for future training or employment in the cultural creative industries?
If you answered 'yes' to the above questions, then get involved with us!
Watershed is launching the brand-new Young Leaders Volunteer programme in January 2010. This project will support sixteen young volunteers to plan and deliver a programme of six digital media “taster” workshops for other local young people. Working with media industry professionals and Watershed staff, the volunteers will plan, schedule and deliver the workshop programme around subjects they are interested in such as sound design, story development, and stop motion animation. Volunteers will be supported to apply their volunteer experience to a Young Bristol 2 volunteer accreditation.
Young Leaders will:
• Decide on the subjects and order of the workshop programme;
• Develop the workshop programme in partnership with media industry professionals;
• Work together with Watershed staff to plan and deliver a marketing and publicity strategy for the programme;
• Undergo relevant event management, health and safety and leadership training;
• Work in small groups in partnership with a media industry professional to deliver the workshop;
• Assist Watershed staff in the evaluation of project outcomes.
Why volunteer? There'll be loads of great stuff to take away:
• Gain valuable project management and marketing experience;
• Build leadership skills;
• Benefit from health & safety training and become familiar with issues around child protection;
• Work in partnership with professionals in the creative industries;
• Be supported by Watershed staff to explore further volunteer, training, or employment possibilities within Bristol’s thriving creative and media scene.
Volunteers must attend a weekly Thursday evening meeting. Meetings will normally last 1 and a half hours, although meetings may extend to 3hrs when training's taking place. You must also be available for one weekend Leadership Day in March (date TBA) and for one day in April for workshop delivery (during Easter Break, April 2-18).
If you're interested, would like to apply for a volunteer place or just want to have a chat with us about the programme, please contact Gwen on 0117 927 5109 or gwen.joy@watershed.co.uk.

‘The Box’ Is Complete!
We’re pleased to announce that the eShed production ‘The Box’, funded by First Light, is now finished!
Director and longtime eShedder Felix Drake wrapped up the shoot last weekend, with a full crew of almost all new eShedders. We're happy to report that after a week in the edit and sound post production at Films@59 studios, the master copy has just been sent back to eShed HQ and looks great!
We are now in the process of looking on to the next step of distributing the film and getting it out onto the festival circuit. Luckily for us the Head of Cultural programme here at Watershed, Mr Mark Cosgrove, happens to be a regular on the international film festival circuit and has plenty of useful advice!! Watch this space for a big screen Bristol premiere.
‘Drawer Of Dreams’ at Colston Hall, Friday 18th September
Last week saw a pretty exciting project take off with Eshed documenting ‘Drawer of Dreams’. Part of the programme of events to celebrate the official opening of the brand-spanking new foyer at Colston Hall on Friday 18th September, ‘Drawer Of Dreams’ is a dynamic physical theatre piece put together by Cirque Bijou and the chamber group Emerald Ensemble. The piece is based on the kinds of difficulties can that arise when a new building is proposed, and featured music conducted by the highly acclaimed Charles Hazzelwood.
Taran, Patch and a small crew of Eshedders (some of them brand new members) turned up to document the event, taking a very hands-on approach and filming whilst mingling within the audience. Everyone involved has reported that the event was a real success- well done, guys!
‘View From Here’ Call For Entries
Another filmmaking opportunity here… from Saturday November 28 to Friday December 4 the third annual View from Here film festival will screen regional and national film work in a range of venues throughout South Devon. View from Here is an event rooted deep in the community and eager to screen new talent from filmmakers with something to say or some incredible story to show.
They want any young people who’ve been making films to have an opportunity to be included in our Young View screening at the Shaftsbury Theatre in Dawlish, on Monday November 30. This will be a chance for national and local filmmakers to stand out from the crowd and see their film on the big screen. The deadline for submissions is Monday November 9, 2009.
All films need to be 10 minutes or under and submitted on mini-DV. Visit www.viewfromhere.org.uk <http://www.viewfromhere.org.uk/> to download submission forms.

PREVIEW- ‘Le Donk And Scor- Zay- Zee’
Watershed is delighted to welcome back award-winning British actor and filmmaker Paddy Considine to Bristol for a special preview of Le Donk and Scor-Zay-Zee, his latest film with long time collaborator Shane Meadows (This is England, Somers Town, Dead Man’s Shoes.) Reuniting for the first time since the critically acclaimed Dead Man’s Shoes (2004), “the unlikely lads of British film,” first met at Burton College, on a performing arts course where they formed indie band, She Talks to Angels, undoubtedly one of the sources of inspiration for this rock mockumentary.
Famously made in just five days, this ultra-low-budget feature is the hilarious result of an unscripted short film mutated into a feature starring Sheffield’s finest the Arctic Monkeys, aka 'Arctical Monkeys', as Considine's roadie and failed musician "Le Donk" refers to them in the film. A fabulous mix of fact and fiction, made up of improvised routines, with Shane Meadows playing a larger than life version of himself, a documentary filmmaker who films the blustering has-been ex roadie roadie/manager Le Donk, (Paddy Considine) documenting his attempts to secure his lodger and white rapping protégé Scor-Zay-Zee his moment on stage at a 50,000-strong 'Monkeys gig. The resulting scenes, filmed at the actual Arctic Monkeys gig in Old Trafford have to be some of the best improvisations ever caught on camera.
After the preview screening, presented in partnership with BAFTA and South West Screen, the star of A Room for Romeo Brass, Dead Man’s Shoes, My Summer of Love and Hot Fuzz will be taking your questions alongside real-life rapper Scor-Zay-Zee, who hails from Meadows's home town, Nottingham.
This month’s Shedloads film club is a very special evening with Paddy Considine (A Room for Romeo Brass, Dead Man’s Shoes, My Summer of Love, Hot Fuzz) and real life rapper Scor-Zay-Zee. A bunch of eShedders interviewed him last November when he came to visit Watershed. You can check out the interview on our film archive.
They’ll be taking part in a Q&A after a preview screening of their new film Le Donk and Scor-Zay-Zee (15) so come along with your questions!
If you’re between 14 and 21 and not already an eShedder, follow this link to find out more about Shedloads events and to register as a member. Fee: £2.50 (with password).
This event forms part of BAFTA’s learning and events programme which aims to give you access behind the scenes of your favourite films, TV programmes and video games. For more information, go to www.bafta.org/accessallareas
