Exciting New Volunteer Opportunity @ Watershed!!
Are you between 16-25 years old?
Are you interested in building up your skills for future training or employment in the cultural creative industries?
If you answered 'yes' to the above questions, then get involved with us!
Watershed is launching the brand-new Young Leaders Volunteer programme in January 2010. This project will support sixteen young volunteers to plan and deliver a programme of six digital media “taster” workshops for other local young people. Working with media industry professionals and Watershed staff, the volunteers will plan, schedule and deliver the workshop programme around subjects they are interested in such as sound design, story development, and stop motion animation. Volunteers will be supported to apply their volunteer experience to a Young Bristol 2 volunteer accreditation.
Young Leaders will:
• Decide on the subjects and order of the workshop programme;
• Develop the workshop programme in partnership with media industry professionals;
• Work together with Watershed staff to plan and deliver a marketing and publicity strategy for the programme;
• Undergo relevant event management, health and safety and leadership training;
• Work in small groups in partnership with a media industry professional to deliver the workshop;
• Assist Watershed staff in the evaluation of project outcomes.
Why volunteer? There'll be loads of great stuff to take away:
• Gain valuable project management and marketing experience;
• Build leadership skills;
• Benefit from health & safety training and become familiar with issues around child protection;
• Work in partnership with professionals in the creative industries;
• Be supported by Watershed staff to explore further volunteer, training, or employment possibilities within Bristol’s thriving creative and media scene.
Volunteers must attend a weekly Thursday evening meeting. Meetings will normally last 1 and a half hours, although meetings may extend to 3hrs when training's taking place. You must also be available for one weekend Leadership Day in March (date TBA) and for one day in April for workshop delivery (during Easter Break, April 2-18).
If you're interested, would like to apply for a volunteer place or just want to have a chat with us about the programme, please contact Gwen on 0117 927 5109 or gwen.joy@watershed.co.uk.
